Themes and Art

At Small Wonders our months are made up of child-directed themes. We take our cues from what we observe during freeplay, taking the child’s interest to develop an exploratory unit. As such we have gone many directions from transportation to gooey science to a month inspired by all of our favorite stories. Upon settling on the month’s theme teachers then take into account all of the Multiple Intelligences assuring that our days are not filled solely with marvelous art experiences but perhaps we touch on Bodily-Kinesthetic with a dinosaur obstacle course, or explore the messy science of shaving cream rain clouds during a weather unit.

Every month is of course filled with art experiences, whether it be fun gooey-ooey sensory art like homemade puffy paint snow or detailed self portraits made studying the mirror up close. Some art experiences from the past year include…
